I'm a 30yr old Australian mum to a 2 year old. After a long love affair with art I started Phunk Lab after being asked to do two exhibitions in Australia while on maternity leave. I was doing a lot of stencil style portraits from people's photos on a background of newspaper in the beginning. One day I was working on a couple's anniversary present when we decided to use some of their personal emails in the background instead. They lived in different states and had met on a flight so the emails were basically the beginning of their relationship. It was so fitting and turned out so well that I started giving all my clients the option of picking song lyrics, poems, wedding vows or anything that meant something special to them..and so the Lover's Portrait was born. Most of my work now involves wedding or anniversary presents. It's such an honour to create something so personal to those involved and I'm very mindful that like wedding photos, my portraits will be keepsakes from a very special time in their lives so I want each one to be perfect!
To create my portraits I take a photo that captures a great moment and do the artwork digitally. It's a process I began using at Uni back in 1999 and now I couldn't imagine working any other way. I particularly love it because I can send through a few proofs with different color options and make any changes or tweaks the client wants before it goes to print (including removing double chins, plumping lips and opening eyes :). I can also email the digital file to the client at the end of the job so they can use it for any printing purposes like rsvp or thank-you postcards. And creating the artwork only takes a few days so I can work to tight deadlines.
Thanks for dropping by and checking out my work. Don't hesitate to ask me any questions if you want to find out more.
